News

“The 2009 year again saw a lot of legislation coming through Parliament resulting in multiple submissions and reviews.  A lot of work around the Sale and Supply of Liquor Act was completed this year including submissions to the Law Commission’s Review of the same act.  A review around the Holidays Act was also held in which NARGON was able to speak directly with a member of the Committee about their views on behalf of its member stores.

Other submissions concerned ACC Levies which have risen due to the large ACC deficit and the 2008 Minimum Wage Submission which has now resulted in a minimum wage increase to $12.75 per hour.  NARGON Board members were involved in a large number of activities in 2009 which included the Liquor Promotions Code and Complaints System and Grocery Industry Council activities.

NARGON is also represented at the AIG meetings held by Business New Zealand and was present at the Foodstuffs Expo held in Palmerston North which helped to secure votes for the supplier awards and increase awareness of NARGON’s service to the industry.

NARGON’S commitment to its members means that we do what we can when we can to improve our services and keep up‐to-date with all things related to the Supermarket industry.

2009 saw a busy year where we implemented quite a few changes and updated several areas, including a re‐design and build of our website which will soon offer our members the opportunity to update their details online.  NARGON still supplies articles on a monthly basis to the FMCG and C‐Store magazines now housed within a single publication.

2010 is looking to be just as busy with member update and further changes such as: Better member tools, including better member guides to handle disciplinary procedures, Health and safety plus much more.  All information will be available on the NARGON website.

Our Board members have been enthusiastic and vibrant with ideas and I would like to thank them for the support they have given me as Chairman over the last year.  You have been great to work with.”

Michael Kennedy

Chairman
